Best swimming pool contractors in Dubai, measured against UK, US and Australian standards

An 8 by 4 metre pool shell that loses 45 litres a day passes the American leak test. One that loses 46 fails. That is how exact the rules are in countries where pool building is a regulated trade, and it is a useful way to judge the swimming pool contractors in Dubai who want your project.

Dubai has strict rules for pool drawings. Dubai Municipality publishes technical guidelines that fix the turnover time, the number of inlets, the width of the deck and the height of the fence. What Dubai does not have is a trade body that inspects a contractor’s finished pools the way SPATA does in Britain or a state inspector who must sign off on the fence before the pool is filled, as happens in Australia. So the checking falls to you.

We wrote this guide for villa owners, developers, and architects who are comparing companies that build swimming pools in Dubai and want something firmer than a brochure. It takes twelve tests from British, American and Australian pool practice, sets each one beside the Dubai rule, and tells you what to ask a contractor to put in writing. We also explain where Green Creation stands on each, because we would rather be measured than praised.

⚡ Short answer

The best pool contractors in Dubai do five things that overseas codes ask for and that many local quotes leave out. They design the shell as a water-retaining structure, they leak test it for three days before any tile goes on, they size pipes by water speed and not by habit, they fit two certified drain covers set apart from each other, and they hand over a file with the test results in it. Green Creation has built 8,940 projects for more than 5,500 clients in the UAE and agrees the cost of each component in writing before work starts.

Why borrow another country’s rulebook?

Britain, the United States and Australia have treated pool building as a regulated trade for a long time, and each has had decades of insurance claims, court cases and coroner’s reports to learn from. Those lessons have left their standards. They usually do not offer generous numbers. They are the minimum a pool can have before someone is hurt or the owner incurs costs.

Three families of documents are relevant for a villa pool.

  • In Britain, BS EN 16582 covers domestic pools, and BS EN 16713 covers their filtration, circulation and water treatment. SPATA, the trade association, publishes its standards on top and inspects its members’ installations.
  • In the United States, the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code pulls together the ANSI/APSP standards: number 5 for residential in-ground pools, number 7 for suction entrapment and number 11 for water quality. Concrete work follows the American Concrete Institute, and leak testing follows ACI 350. 1.
  • In Australia, AS 1926.1 sets the requirements for pool fences, AS 1926.3 for recirculation systems, and AS 3735 for the design of concrete structures that hold liquid. State governments keep pool registers and send inspectors.

None of these is law in Dubai. Your permit is judged against Dubai Municipality’s own guidelines or against Trakhees or a master developer’s rules if your plot sits in a free zone or a gated community. We explain that process in our guide to pool construction regulations in Dubai and on the page on Dubai Municipality pool permits.

The local guidelines and the overseas codes overlap more than most people expect. Where they overlap, the Dubai rule is your legal floor. Where the Dubai text is silent, the overseas figure is the best yardstick available, and good pool contractors in Dubai already work to it because their engineers are trained on it.

The Dubai figures come from the municipality’s Technical Guidelines for Approval of Swimming Pool Plans and its Private Swimming Pools Safety Guidelines. Read both before you sign anything. Together they run to fewer pages than most pool quotes.

The shell as a water-retaining structure

A garden wall and a pool wall can be poured from the same concrete and still be different things. The garden wall is allowed to crack a little. The pool wall is not, because a crack the width of a hair lets water reach the steel, and wet steel in Dubai’s salty ground rusts and bursts the concrete around it.

Australia’s AS 3735 and America’s ACI 350 both exist for this reason. They treat a pool as a tank. The engineer has to limit crack width, give the bars more concrete cover than a normal slab would need, and detail every joint so water has no straight path out. In practice that produces a few things you can check on a drawing.

  • The walls and floor of a villa pool are usually 200 to 250 mm thick. A quote that offers 150 mm is offering a cheaper pool.
  • Reinforcement runs in two layers, one near each face, tied at a stated spacing. Ask what that spacing is.
  • The cover to the steel on the water face is commonly 50 mm or more. Plastic spacers on site should match the drawing.
  • The joint between floor and wall carries a waterstop, and the drawing names the product.
  • Every pipe that passes through the shell has a puddle flange or a sealed sleeve. Penetrations leak far more often than flat walls do.

The method matters less than the design. Poured concrete in formwork, sprayed concrete and blockwork with a reinforced lining can all hold water when they are engineered for it, and all three fail when they are not. We compare them in pool construction materials for Dubai’s climate and in choosing the best materials for your swimming pool.

Curing in forty-degree heat

American concrete practice asks for special measures once the concrete itself is warmer than about 32 to 35°C at placing. In a Dubai summer the air is hotter than it is by nine in the morning. Concrete that dries too fast shrinks and cracks before it has gained strength, and those early cracks are the ones that leak ten years later.

So the pour is booked for the early hours or the evening, the mix is chilled, and the shell is kept wet under hessian or a curing compound for at least seven days. Ask who on site is responsible for curing and how it is recorded. A photo log with dates is enough.

Reinforced concrete swimming pool construction in Dubai by Green Creation

The structure is the one part of a pool that cannot be upgraded later.

Ground conditions change the design as well. Plots on Palm Jumeirah and along the coast have groundwater close to the surface, which can lift an empty shell like a boat. The fix is a thicker base, a wider toe, or a relief valve in the floor, and the engineer chooses after reading a soil report. Our step-by-step pages on the pool construction process in Dubai and on preparing your property for a pool installation go through the site work in order.

The three-day leak test

This is the single most useful clause you can add to a pool contract, and it costs almost nothing.

The American method, ACI 350.1, works like this. The bare concrete shell is left to cure for at least 28 days. It is then filled, and the water level is measured and written down every 12 hours for three days. The shell passes if it loses no more than 0.1% of its volume in 24 hours, after evaporation has been taken out of the figure.

What that means for an 8 by 4 metre pool

Take a pool 8 m long, 4 m wide and 1.4 m deep on average. It holds about 45 m3, which is 45,000 litres. One tenth of one percent is 45 litres a day. Spread over 32 m² of water surface, that is, a drop of 1.4 mm.

Now the Dubai problem. An open pool here can lose several millimetres a day to evaporation in summer, which is more than the leak allowance. A tape measure against the wall tells you nothing unless you know how much of the drop went into the air.

The answer is a control container. A bucket or a length of capped pipe is filled to the same level and stood on a step in the pool, so it sits at the same temperature in the same wind. It loses water to evaporation only. The pool loses water to evaporation and to leaks. Subtract one reading from the other, and you have the leak.

⚠️ Test before the tile, not after.

A leak found in bare concrete costs a day and a bag of repair mortar. The same leak was found after tiling, meaning lifting was finished work to reach it. Some contractors skip the bare-shell test to save a week on the programme. Write the test into the contract as a stage that must be passed before waterproofing and tiling are paid for.

A second fill test follows once the waterproofing membrane is on. Many Dubai pools use a cement-based flexible coating, some use a torch-applied membrane on the outside of the shell, and we cover both in our guide to torch membrane waterproofing in Dubai. If you already own a pool that is losing water, the same bucket method is the first step in detecting and repairing pool leaks.

Pipes, pumps and the four-hour rule

Dubai Municipality says the whole volume of a pool must pass through the filter in four hours or less. That is stricter than the six to twelve hours many home pools abroad are designed for, and it suits the climate. Warm water with sunscreen and dust in it needs more filtering, not less.

For the 45 m³ pool above, four hours means a flow of a little over 11 m³ an hour. The pump has to deliver that against the real resistance of the pipework and a part-dirty filter, so the number is read from the manufacturer’s pump curve, never from the label on the motor.

Where the American code fills a gap

The Dubai guideline tells you how much water must move. It does not tell you how fast it may travel in the pipe. The US pool code does: about 1.8 metres a second on the suction side and 2.4 on the return side.

Here is why that matters. Push 11 m³ an hour through a 63 mm PVC pipe, and the water moves at about 1.2 m/s, well inside the limit. Push the same flow through a 50 mm pipe, and it reaches nearly 2 m/s, over the suction limit. The smaller pipe saves a few hundred dirhams in material. It then costs more in electricity every day for the life of the pool, makes the pump noisier, and pulls harder on anything that blocks a drain.

A good hydraulic drawing lists the diameter of every run. If the quote says only “PVC pipework”, ask for sizes.

Item Dubai Municipality figure Worked for a 45 m³ villa pool
Turnover time 4 hours or less About 11.2 m³ an hour
Water inlets One per 45 m³ One by rule; three or four for even mixing
Skimmers Two per pool Two, on the downwind side
Base drains At least two Two, set apart
Pumps Two per pool Duty and standby, or two sharing the load
Filters One for a private villa, two for a public pool One, sized for the design flow
Deck around the pool At least 1 m private, 1.5 m public 1 m minimum on every side
Deck fall 1:40 away from the water 25 mm of fall per metre

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

One inlet meets the rule for a pool of this size. It does not mix the water well. A careful designer draws three or four so that treated water reaches the far corners and the shallow end. More detail is in our pages on hydraulic flow rate assessment, filtration system engineering and choosing a pool filtration system.

Drain safety

The United States passed the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act after a seven-year-old girl was held underwater by the suction of a spa drain. A single drain connected to a strong pump can hold an adult. The standard written to stop that, ANSI/APSP-7, is short and practical.

  • Where there are two suction outlets on one pump, they sit at least 3 feet apart, centre to centre, or on two different surfaces such as the floor and a wall. One body cannot cover both.
  • Each cover is rated to pass the full flow of the system by itself, so a blocked partner does not overload it.
  • Covers are a certified anti-entrapment type and carry a service life. They are replaced when it runs out.

Dubai Municipality asks for at least two drains at the base of every pool, children’s pool and jacuzzi included. It does not give the spacing, so use the American figure of about 915 mm. And ask for the make and flow rating of the covers. A flat grille bought loose from a hardware shop is not an anti-entrapment cover.

Many modern villa pools avoid the question by taking most of their water through skimmers or an overflow channel and using the floor drains lightly. That is a design choice worth discussing early. We look at it with other safety items in swimming pool safety in Dubai and in top quality and safety in pool construction.

Fences, gates and covers

Australia learnt about pool fences the hard way and now has the most detailed rules in the world. Dubai’s private pool guideline follows them closely, which makes this the one area where local and overseas practice are almost the same.

Detail Australia (AS 1926.1) United States (model code) Dubai Municipality
Height 1.2 m minimum 48 inches (about 1.22 m) 1.20 m from finished ground, measured outside
Gaps between uprights 100 mm maximum A 4-inch (102 mm) ball must not pass. 100 mm maximum
Gap under the fence 100 mm maximum 2 inches over soft ground 100 mm, or 50 mm over grass
Climbing 900 mm zone with no footholds Horizontal rails kept apart At least 900 mm between horizontal rails
Gate latch Out of reach, with rules below 1.5 m Under 54 inches needs shielding 1.5 m above ground on the outside
A boundary wall is used as a barrier. 1.8 m minimum Varies by state Solid walls accepted at 1.2 m effective height

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

Two details get missed on site. A planter, a tap or an air-conditioning unit placed beside the fence after handover gives a child a step up and cancels the 900 mm climbing zone. And the 50 mm gap over grass is measured when the lawn is laid, not on the drawing, because turf settles.

Where a fence would spoil the garden, the Dubai guideline accepts a safety cover for ASTM F1346 in its place. It must cover the whole water surface, carry 220 kg on a pool wider than 2.4 m, and shed rainwater within five minutes. An indoor pool needs a door alarm that sounds at 85 decibels or more, measured 3 m away.

Our landscaping team draws the barrier with the planting plan so it reads as part of the garden. Glass panels, a raised planter wall and a gate hidden in a hedge line can all meet the rule. See protecting your family without compromising style and pool landscaping in Dubai.

Water balance in desalinated water

Most of Dubai’s tap water starts as seawater. Desalination strips out nearly everything, and only some of the minerals are put back. What reaches your pool is soft, with little calcium in it. Soft water is hungry. It takes calcium from the nearest source, and in a pool the nearest source is the grout and the plaster.

American pool practice measures this with the Langelier Saturation Index. One number combines pH, water temperature, calcium hardness and alkalinity. Under the APSP water quality standard, water is balanced between -0.3 and +0.5. Below -0.3 it dissolves cement surfaces. Above +0.5, it leaves a scale on tiles and inside heaters.

A worked example

Fill a new pool with water at pH 7.5, calcium hardness of 50 mg/l and alkalinity of 50 mg/l, at 32°C. The index comes out near -0.85. That water will etch new grout within weeks.

Raise the calcium to 250 mg/l and the alkalinity to 100 mg/l at the same pH and temperature, and the index moves to about +0.15. Nothing else about the pool has changed.

One correction is easy to forget. Where stabiliser (cyanuric acid) is used, a third of its reading is taken off the alkalinity before the sum is done. A pool with heavy stabiliser can look balanced on paper and be corrosive in fact.

Dubai Municipality’s guideline for private pools already asks for the saturation index to be checked every two weeks, with calcium hardness, alkalinity and cyanuric acid. pH and free chlorine are daily checks, at 7.4 to 7.6 and 1 to 2 mg/l. Bacterial samples go to a laboratory every two months. Few villa owners know this schedule exists.

We test the fill water before we quote for maintenance, because the first month of a new pool’s life sets the condition of its surface for years. Related reading: water chemistry management, pH and alkalinity stabilisation, pool water testing and analysis and controlled chemical dosing.

Energy, cooling and running cost

A pool pump follows a simple law. Halving its speed, the power it draws falls to roughly one-eighth. The water takes twice as long to circulate, so the energy used to move each cubic metre falls to about a quarter. That is the whole case for variable-speed pumps, and it is why US federal efficiency rules now leave little room for single-speed pumps in in-ground pools and why Australia puts energy rating labels on them.

Dubai asks for two pumps per pool and a four-hour turnover. It does not ask for efficient ones. A variable-speed pump can run at full speed for the hours when the pool is in use and the turnover rule bites, then drop to a low speed overnight to keep water moving through the filter. On a DEWA bill the difference shows within the first quarter.

  • A cover cuts evaporation sharply. In Dubai, that saves top-up water, the chemicals in it, and the cooling energy used to bring fresh water down to temperature.
  • LED pool lights use a fraction of the power of the halogen lamps they replace and last far longer underwater.
  • Automatic dosing, which the municipality requires on public pools, keeps chlorine steady and stops the overdosing that wears out liners and heaters.

Cooling comes before heating here.

British and Australian guides spend pages on heating. In Dubai the first question is cooling. From June to September an unshaded pool can reach bath temperature, and nobody swims in it. A reversible heat pump cools in summer and warms in January, and it has to be sized for the summer load, which is the larger of the two.

Shade, water depth and the colour of the finish all change that load, so they belong in the design conversation and not in a later upgrade. We compare the options in pool heating and cooling in Dubai, energy-efficient pool solutions and smart pool technology.

Shade, depth and finish colour decide how hard the cooling plant has to work.

Inspections other countries make compulsory

In most Australian states a private certifier or council officer visits a pool at fixed points. In Britain, SPATA inspects its members’ installations and holds them to an ethical code. In Dubai the authority approves your drawings and issues a completion certificate, and what happens in between is largely between you and your contractor.

You can copy the overseas habit by naming hold points in the contract. A hold point is a stage where work stops until somebody has looked at it and signed it.

Stage What is checked? Who should sign Record you keep
Excavation complete Depth, levels, groundwater, setback from boundary Site engineer Level survey and photos
Steel fixed Bar size, spacing, cover, bonding wire Structural engineer Signed inspection sheet
Pipework before burial Pressure held for the agreed period MEP supervisor Pressure test record
Shell cured Three-day leak test Contractor and owner Level readings and results
Waterproofing applied Second fill test Contractor and owner Result sheet
Tiling Adhesive coverage, movement joints, grout type Finishes supervisor Product data sheets
Barrier complete Heights, gaps, gate closes and latches unaided Owner Dimensioned photos
Commissioning Measured flow, filter pressure, water chemistry Commissioning engineer Commissioning report

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

Payments should follow these stages. A schedule that asks for most of the money before the leak test is a schedule written for the contractor. Our guides on what to expect during pool construction and questions to ask before hiring set out a fair split.

What no overseas code covers

A British standard assumes rain. An Australian one assumes a timber fence and a eucalyptus tree. Four Dubai conditions sit outside all of them, and a contractor who has only read the books will be caught by each.

Dust

Fine airborne dust settles on the water every day and after every shamal. It is too fine for a leaf net, and it loads the filter. Filters here are sized larger than the flow alone would suggest, and backwash water has to go somewhere the community allows.

Salt in the ground

Coastal soils carry chloride and sulphate. Both attack concrete and steel from the outside. The mix design, the cover to the bars and the outer membrane are chosen from the soil report.

Developer rules

Emaar, Nakheel, Dubai Properties and other master developers each have their own no-objection process, with set working hours, refundable deposits and limits on what can be seen from the street. A pool that meets the municipality’s rules can still be refused by the community.

Summer working hours

Outdoor work stops over midday in the hottest months by law. A programme drawn up in an office in spring that ignores this will run late by August.

This is why local experience counts for more than any certificate. We have written about it in Why Opt for Local Swimming Pool Experts and in preparing your pool for Dubai’s summer.

Our approach

Why Green Creation

www.green-creation.com · Dream in Blue & Live in Green

Luxury swimming pool and garden designed and built by Green Creation in Dubai

The pool and garden are drawn as one project by one team.

8,940projects completed
5,500+clients in the UAE
2trades under one roof

We have been building in the UAE for close to two decades. Our clients include Emaar, Meraas, Sobha, Deyaar, Hilton and Azizi, along with several thousand villa owners. Those are facts about size. They are not, by themselves, a reason to hire anybody, so here is how we work against the tests in this guide.

Every component is priced as its own line.

We agree on the design details and the cost of each component with the client or the architect before work starts. Wall thickness, pipe sizes, the pump model and the drain covers are written down. If you want the three-day leak test or a variable-speed pump in the contract, ask us to add the line, and you will see what it costs.

We began as a landscaping company.

Pools came later, and that order shows in the work. Levels, drainage falls, the barrier, planting and lighting are drawn with the pool. A deck that falls 1:40 away from the water has to send that water somewhere, and a fence that must stay clear of footholds affects where the planters go. One team deciding both avoids the usual argument between a pool builder and a gardener. Our page on transforming Dubai gardens shows the garden side.

Turnkey or as a subcontractor

For a villa we take the whole job: design, approvals, excavation, structure, waterproofing, tiling, plant room, deck and garden. On hotels, towers and communities we work as the pool subcontractor to the main contractor, on pools up to Olympic size. The page on commercial pool construction in Dubai covers that work.

Divers who are pool engineers

Our maintenance division employs commercial divers who are qualified pool engineers. A loose tile, a failed light or a cracked fitting below the waterline can often be put right with the pool full. In a city where the top-up water is desalinated and an empty shell can float, that matters.

We stay after handover

The company that built the pool is the one that services it, on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly plan, and the same company answers when something needs repair. Spas, saunas and steam rooms are covered too. See our pool service company page and pool maintenance in Dubai.

What building to this level costs

Prices for swimming pool construction in Dubai projects vary with size, finish and ground. The ranges below are what owners are quoted across the market for a complete pool before VAT. They are not Green Creation prices, and your plot may fall outside them.

Pool type Typical market range (AED) What moves the price most
Plunge pool 55,000 to 120,000 Access for machines, finish
Fibreglass shell pool 75,000 to 180,000 Crane access, shell size
Concrete pool, about 6 by 3 m 90,000 to 170,000 Ground conditions, tile choice
Concrete pool, about 8 by 4 m 120,000 to 230,000 Depth, plant room, cooling
Lap pool 180,000 to 500,000 Length, structure, cover
Infinity or overflow pool 280,000 to 500,000 and above Balance tank, edge detail, levels

Now the part that surprises people. Most of the twelve tests cost little when they are priced at the start.

Benchmark item Extra cost if specified at the quote stage Cost of leaving it out
Three-day leak test on the bare shell A week on the programme and the fill water Lifting tile to find a leak later
63 mm pipe in place of 50 mm A few hundred dirhams of PVC Higher pump energy for the life of the pool
Two certified drain covers, spaced apart The price of two fittings An entrapment risk that cannot be fixed without draining
Variable-speed pump More than a single-speed pump on day one A larger DEWA bill every month
Fill-water test and start-up chemistry One laboratory test Etched grout in the first season
Handover file A day of office time No drawings when a repair is needed in year eight

After handover

A pool built to a good standard still needs somebody to look after it. The municipality’s testing schedule (daily, fortnightly and every two months) is more than most households will keep up alone, and the first sign of trouble is usually small: a filter gauge reading a little higher than last month, or grout that feels rough under a thumb.

We offer weekly, fortnightly and monthly plans. Each begins with an audit of the pool and a test of the fill water. Once a year we check the pump against its curve, open the filter, and recalibrate the controller. Our commercial divers are qualified pool engineers, so tile, light and fitting repairs below the waterline are often done without draining. That saves the water and avoids leaving an empty shell on a high water table.

If your pool is older and was not built to these tests, a renovation is the time to add them. Drains, pipework at the plant room, pumps and barriers can all be brought up to standard without rebuilding the shell. See pool renovations in Dubai and cost-effective repairs and upgrades.

Fourteen questions to ask

Send these by email so the answers are in writing. A contractor who builds properly will answer most of them from memory.

  1. Who is the structural engineer, and is the shell designed as a water-retaining structure?
  2. What are the wall and floor thicknesses, the bar size and spacing, and the cover to the steel?
  3. Has a soil report been done, and how does the design deal with groundwater?
  4. When will the concrete be poured, and how will it be cured in the heat?
  5. Will you leak test the bare shell for three days, with a control container, before waterproofing?
  6. What is the pass figure for that test, and will I receive the readings?
  7. What is the pool volume and the design flow, and which pump curve was it read from?
  8. What is the pipe diameter on each run and the water speed at design flow?
  9. How far apart are the two base drains, and what is the make and flow rating of the covers?
  10. Does the barrier drawing show 1.2 m height, gaps under 100 mm and a latch at 1.5 m?
  11. Will you test my fill water and give me a start-up chemistry sheet?
  12. Is the main pump variable speed, and what is the expected daily energy use?
  13. Which authority approves this plot, and who pays the fees and the community deposit?
  14. What exactly is in the handover file?

Frequently asked questions

Who are the best swimming pool contractors in Dubai?

The best ones can show you a structural design, a leak test result, a hydraulic drawing with pipe sizes and a handover file from a pool they finished recently. Green Creation has completed 8,940 projects for more than 5,500 clients in the UAE, including work for Emaar, Meraas, Sobha, Deyaar, Hilton and Azizi, and we are happy to be judged on those four documents.

How do I compare swimming pool construction companies in Dubai?

Ask each company the same fourteen questions in writing and lay the answers side by side. Price only means something once the wall thickness, pipe sizes, pump model, drain covers and testing are the same in every quote.

Do UK, US or Australian pool standards apply in Dubai?

No. Your permit is judged against Dubai Municipality, Trakhees or master developer rules. The overseas standards are useful where the local text is silent, for example, on pipe water speed, drain spacing and the leak test method.

What is a pool leak test, and how long does it take?

The shell is filled, and the level is recorded every 12 hours for three days. Under the American method it passes if it loses no more than 0.1% of its volume in 24 hours after evaporation is removed. On a 45 m³ pool that is 45 litres, or about 1.4 mm of level.

Why does the leak test need a bucket?

Because a Dubai pool can lose more water to evaporation in a day than the test allows for leakage. A container of water standing in the pool loses water to evaporation only, so the difference between the two readings is the leak.

What turnover time does Dubai Municipality require?

Four hours or less. The full volume of the pool must pass through the filter within that time. A 45 m³ villa pool needs a real flow of a little over 11 m³ an hour.

How many drains does a pool need in Dubai?

At least two at the base, and the same applies to children’s pools and jacuzzis. American practice sets them at least 3 feet apart, about 915 mm, so one person cannot block both.

How high must a pool fence be in Dubai?

At least 1.20 m from finished ground level, measured on the outside. Gaps between uprights must not be wider than 100 mm; the gap underneath is limited to 100 mm on paving and 50 mm over grass; and the gate latch release sits 1.5 m above ground on the outside.

Can I use a pool cover in place of a fence?

Dubai Municipality’s private pool guideline accepts a safety cover that meets ASTM F1346. It must cover the entire water surface and carry 220 kg on pools wider than 2.4 m. Check with your community as well, since some developers set their own rules.

What should pool water tests be in Dubai?

The municipality’s guideline for private pools gives pH 7.4 to 7.6 and free chlorine 1 to 2 mg/l, checked daily. Calcium hardness, alkalinity, the saturation index and cyanuric acid are checked every two weeks, and bacterial samples every two months.

Why does new grout wear away so fast in some Dubai pools?

The fill water is desalinated and low in calcium, so it dissolves calcium from cement surfaces until it is satisfied. Raising calcium hardness and alkalinity at start-up brings the saturation index into the balanced range and stops the damage.

Is a variable-speed pump worth the extra cost?

In almost every case, yes. At half speed a pump draws about one-eighth of the power, and a villa pool pump runs every day of the year. The saving usually repays the price difference well within the life of the pump.

How long does it take to build a pool in Dubai?

A concrete villa pool commonly takes three to four months on site once approvals are in hand. Curing and the two fill tests account for several weeks of that and should not be shortened. Approvals come first and vary by authority and community.

How much does a swimming pool cost to build in Dubai?

Market ranges before VAT run from about AED 55,000 for a small plunge pool to AED 120,000 to 230,000 for an 8 by 4 metre concrete pool and from AED 280,000 for an infinity pool. Ground conditions, access, finish and cooling plant move the figure most.

Does Green Creation work as a subcontractor on larger projects?

Yes. We build turnkey villas for owners, and we work as the pool subcontractor to main contractors on hotels, towers and communities, up to Olympic-sized pools. In both cases the design details and component costs are agreed with the client or architect first.

Can an existing pool be brought up to these standards?

Often it can. Drain covers, barriers, pumps, dosing and plant room pipework can be upgraded without touching the shell. Our divers carry out many underwater repairs without draining the pool.

Which areas of Dubai does Green Creation cover?

We build and maintain pools across Dubai, with regular work on Palm Jumeirah and in Arabian Ranches, Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai Hills and Al Barsha, and we take projects elsewhere in the UAE.
